King Crimson (11) "Requiem" (Extended) From: Beat 40Th Anniversary 2016

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, King Crimson are releasing 50 rare or unusual tracks from the archives. Starting on 13th January, the date the band was formed in the Fulham Palace Café in 1969, these tracks will be released one a week for the remaining 50 weeks of 2019. Each track will be introduced by a commentary from David Singleton, King Crimson manager and producer.

Un disco de canciones, cuya música aparece firmada por King Crimson y las letras por Adrian Belew, y que entronca, desde el mismo título del álbum hasta en los títulos de las canciones, con la generación beat. De algún modo es un disco más osado (otro tanto intelectualizado) que Discipline: si en los dos hay un concepto global presente, en el primero es algo muy pétreo, muy monolineal; en el segundo, en Beat, se tocan más teclas. Veámoslo.

Beat was released in June 1982 just eight months after the 1980s Crimson line-up’s debut recording Discipline. It marked the first occasion where a King Crimson line-up had remained intact for a two album stretch and was also the first album by the band to employ a separate producer – Rhett Davies. The juxtaposition of lyrics heavily influenced by 50s beat luminaries Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady, the complex polyrhythmic musical textures of the 1980s Crimson, the strength of the songs and the cohesion of the studio performances, all helped the album chart upon release in the US and the UK.
