Once you realize that the obscure FFWD is a collective pseudonym for Robert Fripp and The Orb, both legendary artists in their respective genre, it comes as no surprise that this unique, self titled album is an extremely competent piece of work.It does, however, suffer from a couple of problems, quite symptomatic for it time. Such as: Fripp going haywire on his goddamn flanger, and The Orb being way more interested in tweaking sound samples than composing something memorable out of them. That stated, FFWD is still a fascinating trip through a strange world you can hear but cannot see. It's nineties ambient, done in a way that it's just not done anymore. And "Buckwheat & Grits" is just amazing.
