King Crimson (25) "Islands" (With Jakko Jakszyk) From:Sailors´ Tales Boxed Set 2017

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, King Crimson are releasing 50 rare or unusual tracks from the archives. Starting on 13th January, the date the band was formed in the Fulham Palace Café in 1969, these tracks will be released one a week for the remaining 50 weeks of 2019. Each track will be introduced by a commentary from David Singleton, King Crimson manager and producer.

King Crimson 1969-1972 is a limited edition box set that presents the band’s celebrated quartet of studio albums from that period – In The Court Of The Crimson King, In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard, and Islands – along with a 2LP set of rarities.The vinyl albums in the box feature the 40th anniversary mixes as mixed and produced by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp in 2009 and 2010. These are presented in their original sleeves.

La inmensidad del material presentado en el Box Set "Sailor's Tales" abarca la era de la banda desde "In The Wake Of Poseidon", pasando por "Lizard", el "Islands", y terminando con el gran disco grabado en vivo llamado "Earthbound" de 1972.Es casi hasta lógico pensar que después de la tremenda formación que presenta una de las alineaciones más reconocibles de la banda, con Robert Fripp, John Wetton, Bill Bruford, Jamie Muir y David Cross, las alineaciones que anteceden al álbum "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" antes de 1973 hayan quedado eclipsadas por tremendisimos músicos y devastadores álbumes.

La obra maestra de la primera etapa de King Crimson. Así de claro y así de sencillo. Tras tres discos de acertada evolución, este cuarto es el summum: todo lo que en los tres anteriores era improvisación y experimentos vanguardistas (progresivos) a medio madurar, aquí maduran acertadamente. Y por múltiples vías..............

Por si no había quedado claro tras “Lizard”, King Crimson significaba cambio. Tras el disparatado cambio de sonido que supuso la transición de su segundo a su tercer disco, Fripp y los suyos decidieron rizar el rizo y evolucionar hacia algo muy distinto.Ya la portada nos permite hacernos una idea de lo que intenta transmitir el disco: atmósfera, soledad, melancolía… quizá no es un sentimiento que se conserve a lo largo de todo el disco, pero a rasgos generales, la cohesión portada/música es excelente.
